A pastor based in Nakuru town was on Tuesday arraigned in a Nakuru Law Court to answer fraud charges.
The prosecution desk told the Court that was presided over by Chief Resident Magistrate Samuel Mungai that the accused Moses Njoroge, 43 who is a Pastor at New Hope Christian Centre in White House Estate within Nakuru town adamantly refused to pay back Sh40,000 to one Charles Mwaura, a businessman based in the area after the borrowed money to facilitate the repair of his car.
The prosecution desk also told the Court that the accused had approached the businessman on January 5 this year at his business premises and requested for the money against a lap top computer machine which he claimed was worth Sh120,000.
The prosecution averred that the accused had produced a receipt that reflected the amount of the price he had quoted verbally and promised to refund the money in a month’s time span.
The Court was also told that the accused however failed to live to his promise and started evading the complainant thus violating the signed agreement that was produced in Court.
The prosecution added that the complainant had sought help from computer experts who shockingly told him that the lap top computer machine was worth Sh20,000 and that it was not mechanically fit.
The accused however denied the charges and requested the Court to broker an out of Court settlement of the case arguing that he was unable to honour the agreement in time due to over commitments.
He was released on a cash bond of Sh20,000 pending the filing of a response from the complainant in a week’s time or the hearing of the case on April 23.
