A 35-year-old man who snatched Sh1000 from a minor at Teachers estate, Nakuru on Sunday afternoon was barely saved from mob justice by a clergy man who pleaded with them to hand him to police. Confirming the incident, Teachers Police officer in-Charge Mercy Musyoka said the suspect who is still in custody was handed to police by members of the public and the parents of the minor who recorded a statement. According to eye witnesses, Reverend Noah Wakoli of Teachers Deliverance Church intervened to save Edward Kong’o’s life as angry residents bayed for his blood following the incidence. The man is alleged to have snatched the money from the minor who had been sent to a nearby shop by his parents before going on a drinking spree in local joints. “Members of the public were beating him up as they waited for petrol they had sent for to burn him when the reverend intervened”, said Kennedy Njoroge, a shop keeper at the trading centre. Njoroge added that the suspect then sneaked away to a backstreet after promising to help the boy access the lost money. “The boy knows him and so he informed his parents who mobilized other residents to search for the suspect. He was found drinking up on the stolen money at a local drinking joint”, said the eye witness. The police have launched investigations into the incidence.
