An Anglican church in Embu will deny Holy Communion to faithful not registered as voters.
The chaplain to the Embu ACK Bishop Reverend Isaiah Njagi said the faithful have to produce their voters’ card before partaking of the sacrament.
Njagi who was quoted by Nairobi News said the rules are effective from Easter period until the Sunday after the August 8 election.
“After this month, during Easter, I will demand to see the voters’ card before I can administer the Eucharist. And the Sunday following the General Election, you must show me the mark to show that you have voted,” he said.
He said people have to show the indelible mark to show they voted.
“Failure to vote is what allows crooked leaders to get into leadership. If you elected a corrupt president, do you think the prayer would move him?” he posed.
The clergyman who was addressing faithful at the Good Shepherd ACK Church Kathangariri church said poor leadership is caused by people who fail to participate in the electoral process.
He said it would be useless for the church to pray for leaders if the faithful did not participate in the election in the first place.
Rev Njagi also called upon other church leaders to participate in civic education to have their faithful register and even cast votes in the August election.
