A Nakuru court has given Teachers Service Commission CEO Gabriel Lengoibon one month to pay all the retired teachers Sh16.7 billion or go to jail.
Lady Justice Janet Mulwa yesterday ordered that the over 52,000 retired teachers of 1997 be paid the money which is part of Sh42 billion pension and salary arrears.
Retired teachers who had flocked the court to follow the proceedings were, however, disappointed by the further delay.
"This is the fifth time that the court is telling us to wait," said Charles Kiama.
"Some of us are very old and sick. We might die before we ever get this money we have been following for that long."
Lawyer Dominic Kimata, for the teachers, said that no money had been released to the teachers despite Attorney General Githu Muigai's commitment that the money would be released.
"The government has no goodwill in this matter and I was urging the court to lift the suspension orders it had put before," Kimata said.
TSC said that the Sh16.7 billion ordered by court is ready, but the arrears have to be passed by parliament.
