Kisii Traders have been told to pay taxes to improve services offered to them by the county government.
Speaking today in Kisii town, James Awiti from the county government business licensing department officer has called upon traders to pay taxes to the revenue authority citing that some individuals have developed mechanisms to evade payment of taxes.
"The taxes we collect are used to improve services to you. When you evade taxes how do you expect us to render services without the finance,” asked Awiti.
However, the traders refuted the claims saying whether they collected rent or not the county government has failed in delivering services to them.
“I have been paying rent for the past 5 years, but look at the state of our markets and roads," claimed a trader.
"The taxes we give go to the pockets of some individual. I am paying no more taxes until services are improved including roads,” she added.
Some traders also said some of the officers collude with them and steal the money collected and when they get to the offices they say they are evading the paying of taxes which is not the case.
