Mumias East Member of Parliament Benjamin Washiali has asked the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga to clear his debts with Mumias Sugar Company if the Cord co-principal is to avoid future Anti-Raila demonstrations as witnessed on Friday in Shibale, Mumias during his Western tour.
While speaking in Matulo ward during the burial ceremony of area MCA Paul Wanyonyi's mother, the lawmaker said that the demonstrations were just a reflection of the bitterness and anger that Mumias residents have over Raila Odinga.
He also pointed out that in case Raila wanted to ally with the people of Mumias, he must clear his debts with the miller before winning back the lost votes in Western.
Washiali said that the people from Western had grown tired of voting in Raila with his rhetoric politics that have only dragged the region behind in terms of development.
"The people in Mumias entirely depend on sugar cane for their survival and have finally said enough is enough. Raila should explain what he knows about the ailing factory and the role his debts play in the situation of the company," he said.
Washiali also urged Bungoma Senator and Cord co-principal Moses Wetangula to decamp from Cord and join Jubilee so as to be part of the next government as they were sure of winning the next election.
