Peace cop co-coordinator Dr. Mark Leleruk has called on political leaders from across the divide to embrace peace and ensure unity of all the people for a peaceful existence.
Dr.Leleruk was speaking on Wednesday during the community policing wing of the Administration police service- APS {PEACE COP} peace campaign drive in Nakuru Town West and Nakuru Town East sub counties.
During the peace campaign drive, residents of Rhonda and Kivumbini wards were engaged in a peace walk that involved painting peace messages on the roads vowing to maintain peace and ensuring those who lost in the August 8th polls as well as those who won work together for peace to prevail.
“Our main works as Peace Cop is to strengthen inter communal peace considering the heated political campaigns that precedent to the August 8th polls” said Dr.Leleruk.
The Administration police officers also participated in a football match and tag of war competition at the Kamukunji grounds in Bondeni.
According to Dr.Leleruk, a similar campaign has been conducted in Nairobi and will be extended to other towns in the country.
He added that APS has achieved a lot in matters of peace by way of directly reaching out to members of the public.
On her part, commissioner of police based at the APS headquarters in Rift valley Phidilliah Kisinyo welcomed the peace initiative.
She called on the members of the public to embrace co- existence and shun those who might be out to incite them.
She commended members of the public in Nakuru for setting out a good example after the announcement of the presidential election results by coming out in their numbers to celebrate irrespective of their political affiliations.
The commissioner said that there was need for Kenya to emulate Rwanda where tribalism has no root.
“I must commend the people of Nakuru for setting a good example since after the announcement of results, they have come out together whether Jubilee, NASA or independent divide to show the unity” she said.
The officer called on parents t ensure they bring up their children in the right way shunning tribalism but rather embrace peace.
