A pedestrian was shot injured by police in Nairobi as the law enforcement officers intensified the crackdown on muggers. The Nairobi resident was caught up in the crossfire on Landhies Road on Tuesday, when police ambushed a group of suspected muggers who have been harassing city residents. Five thugs escaped the onslaught, after robbing at least four victims of their valuables. Police officers had earlier killed three suspected robbers in two separate incidents within the city.This follows a public outcry on the state of insecurity in the city centre. Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko said he had formed a special anti-mugging squad to deal with the thugs. Nairobi police commander Japheth Koome warned the city muggers to ‘watch the police footsteps’.
