A middle aged man has been critically injured after a speeding vehicle knocked him along Mombasa road while crossing road at around 7 o’clock on Wednesday evening.
The accident happened along the Machakos-Mlolongo road just a few meters from Red-Cross offices in Machakos town.
The residents who witnessed the incident stated that the man who was crossing the road was already at the middle of the road when he noticed the speeding car and it was too late to escape.
Confirming the incident, Machakos town Police Base Commander Rashid Ali stated that the unfortunate accident left the victim with severe injuries on the head.
“The pedestrian has been hit by the car as he was crossing the road, we are still investigating the matter to determine who was on the wrong, but I urge people cross roads only after confirming that it is safe to do so and only at a pedestrian crossing sign and footbridges,” said Ali.
He however stated that the vehicle involved had been taken to Machakos Police Station and the driver was being questioned.
The pedestrian was immediately rushed to the Machakos Level Five Hospital Casualty Department for first aid and further treatments.
