A pedestrian was shot and injured in Nairobi's downtown as police battled a gang of muggers along Landhies Road. According to police reports, the gang was waylaying pedestrians and stealing from them when an officer going to work spotted them and intervened.
It was while aiming at the gang that the officer missed the target and instead shot at the pedestrian in the hand.
The muggers escaped on foot.
The injured person was rushed to hospital for medical attention where he was treated and discharged.
Cases of mugging in Nairobi's CBD have been on the rise, something that prompted Governor Mike Sonko to form an anti-mugging unit over the weekend.
