The Judiciary will put more emphasis on election petitions that will arise after the upcoming general elections.

This, the Acting Eldoret resident Judge Cecilia Githua says will lead to delays in most of the pending cases that will be in courts after the elections.

Speaking during a public forum organized by the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ Kenya) at the Eldoret High Court, Wednesday, Lady Justice Githua said the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) will soon gazette all the courts that will handle election petitions.

Chief Justice David Maraga is also expected to gazette all judicial officers who will handle election petitions in a two weeks’ time.

"Election petitions are likely to derail other cases since we will be working on a time frame to complete election matters as stipulated in the election petition laws," said Githua.

She further revealed that Judicial officers from the North Rift region have been taken through trainings on how to handle different election petitions expected to arise from the August 8 general elections.

"The Judiciary has put in place sufficient measures to handle election disputes likely to come up after the elections," assured the Acting Eldoret resident Judge.
