A section of People Living with Disabilities (PLWD’s) in Kisumu, on Thursday received a major financial boost from the National Fund for the Disabled of Kenya (NFDK).
The fund gave out Sh4 million to help the disabled in Kisumu County start up business ventures. They also received equipment worth Sh600, 000 to help them kick start various business ventures such as salons.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at Nyanza Regional Coordinator's Office in Kisumu, NFDK board member Mrs. Julian Ojiambo said NFDK is working closely with the government to ensure that disabled persons issues are well addressed.
“We will make sure that all forms of disability are considered and what you asked for is given,” she assured those present.
On her part, Kisumu County Commissioner Madam Pauline Dola said that the government recognizes and supports NFDK’s efforts, and urged beneficiaries to make good use of the equipment given out.
“The government has spent a lot of money in acquiring this equipment and therefore do not sell or mishandle them,” she urged.
She said it is important to support the disabled just as the Kenyan constitution recommends.
NFDK’s has facilitated various projects in schools for the disabled in the Nyanza region.
