Kenya Re-insurance has donated Sh2 million worth of wheelchairs to People Living With Disabilities (PLWD) in Nakuru County.
While donating the wheelchairs on Tuesday, Kenya Re General manager Nancy Imunde said that there is need to empower the disabled people to ensure they contribute to the country's development.
"We want the disabled youngsters to be able to go to school and the grown ups to be able to start business so that they can take care of their families," said Imunde.
Speaking at the same event, Nakuru County Chief officer, Health Services Dr Samuel Mwaura said the county will join hands with like-minded groups to help facilitate the disabled.
"We shall talk to them and see how we can facilitate the whole project so that we help them, even though it takes a lengthy process,” saud Mwaura.
The county’s People Living With Disabilities Chairman Fred Awako appealed to more groups to come out and help them.
"There are so many disabled people here, mostly at homes and we hope you will help us to reach to them," said Awako.
