NCPD Uasin Gishu coordinator Titus Yego claims counties and the national government have not been employing people with disabilities despite the constitutional requirement that they should be allocated key appointments.

"Article 54 of the constitution of Kenya 2010 clearly indicates that persons with disabilities should progressively be employed fewer than 5% reservations to fill the gap between attaining 5% and beyond. Why are we being ignored? Are we not Kenyans?" said Yego in Eldoret town, Sunday.

"This initiative is a constitutional mandate, I am therefore urging both the county and national governments to employ us since we are employable and we can do the best and better job when given an opportunity," he added.

Yego however, urged both the national and county governments to empower people living with disabilities financially to help improve their livelihoods.

“Gone are the days when people with disability were given handouts and deemed as beggars we want to be empowered so that we can do our own business since disability is not inability. If given a chance and funds we can do better than our normal counterparts,” noted Yego.
