People Living with Disabilities (PLWD) in Uasin Gishu have been urged to participate in this year’s county cultural celebrations.
Uasin Gishu County Department of Heritage and Culture Director Mohamed Haji has appealed to the PLWDs saying the event is meant to be all-inclusive. He added that it is good that the disabled people also turn up to be counted.
He has however expressed his disappointment with the PLWDs saying that despite the county having met all the expenses, the members have not shown any interest to participate.
“We have not been able to establish the participation from people with disabilities and we want to say from the onset that all people with talents are invited. We are telling those with disabilities and have talents to come out and participate too,” Haji said.
Haji has also asked the elected leaders in the county to come out and support as well as sponsor the various social groups that do not have the means.
“We want to come together and enjoy our diversity as we compete. If we will have funds we will sponsor one or two groups. We have MCAs, we have MPs, let us start supporting these groups through sponsorships,” he said.
