The race for Uasin Gishu Women Representative seat is expected to be highly competitive as it has attracted a number of contestants ahead of the 2017 general election.

Former Eldoret South MP Peris Simam, Moi University don Emily Kogos and businesswoman Eunice Talai have made public their intentions to vie for the seat.

Mrs Simam, popularly known as 'Pepea', said her track record during her reign as area MP, coined with her experience in politics was an assurance of exemplary leadership if elected to represent the county.

She received backing from Deputy President William Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet, who told residents that she stood with the DP and fully supported him during the 10th Parliament.

“Mrs Simam was one of those legislators who stood with the Deputy President in the 10th Parliament, her performance was also good. I don’t see why she should not be elected,” said Mr Kibet.

He said that in the previous general election, Eldoret North took all the top county seats and challenged the larger Eldoret South to pick Mrs Simam in order to be represented in one of the top three county seats.

Dr Kogos had earlier urged the electorate to support her candidature, saying the seat currently held by Eusilah Ngeny, needs to be injected with new blood.

On her part, Mrs Talai who has been branded 'Mama Yao' said she was in the race to win and requested for blessings from Kesses residents.

They were speaking during a fundraiser at AIC Tuiyobei Church in Kesses on Sunday.

The three hail from the Southern part of county.
