Christmas is barely a week away, a time when you increase consumption of food and drinks, especially those deemed unhealthy, but delicious.
Often even fitness junkies would put aside their workout routines during this holiday season and instead dedicate their time to making merry with family, friends and loved ones.
Sadly, as people tear down their usual diets and engage in the gluttonous behavior, many tend to gain a few extra pounds while others fail to recover and begin the following year on a fitness low.
To be on the safe side, stick to healthy, but a delicious diet and workout whenever you can.
Get down on the floor
There’s plenty of boogieing to be done over the festive season, so get on the dance floor early and show everyone what you are made of. Michael Jackson would burn 6.8 kgs dancing on a single performance; you can do it too.
Those crazy dance moves are even better. Plus not only will you be earning yourself some activity values, but more dancing means less nibbling and drinking.
Exercise at home
You could get a partner. It is likely that you have got a workout video tucked away in your collection, a pair of dumbbells under your bed, or a jump rope neatly tied in a drawer can go a long way to help retain your pre-Christmas gains. Use the aforementioned equipment to stay fit in the comfort of your own home.
Make time for running
You have been driving your car in the city. You’re upcountry and with plenty of parking space. Park it and get moving the biological way. If you can’t manage to squeeze it in during your working week, why not head out at the weekend? On a crisp, fresh morning, there is nothing more exhilarating than being outdoors.
