All persons claiming ownership of the parcel of land owned by Isahakia community have been directed to appear before the National Land Commission. The commission chair Mohamed Swazuri said that the people need to indicate to the commission how they landed on such property. Speaking during a tour of the land conducted by Isahakia Community Chairman Faraah Ali Swazuri said that they intend to investigate if the current occupants of the land had the legal documents pertaining to the land ownership. “The only way we can ascertain who really owns this land is if we have the right and legal documents so that we can address the dispute between the two different parties. We have been talking to the occupants to know how they ended up here” he added. Controversy of the 10000 acres of land has been raging on with the community claiming that the parcel of land belongs to them. “We will investigate from the lands offices in Nakuru and Naivasha to ascertain whether the land is public or belongs to the community. We want to know how each person ended up with such land,” he added. He admitted that there are some people claiming ownership of the land which was fishy. “The Isahakia community does not have evidence or any legal documents that indicate that they own the land as a commission we know there are challenges to this and we intend to get to the root of the ownership wrangles,” he added. He was addressing the press yesterday in Naivasha after an extensive tour of the Isahakia community land that was conducted by the community’s chairman Faraah Ali. Swazuri added that there was a taskforce that was currently going round the country to collect views on how to formulate laws dealing with historical injustices so that issues of people squatting on their own land are tackled comprehensively.
