The payment, which is from October 2013 to June 2014, was issued through the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social development in partnership with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities.

The program which was held in Thika town had earlier benefited 33 members within Thika Sub County who are still receiving the benefits from the county government that was launched by the ministry back in 2011.

The program objective is to contribute to poverty reduction in households containing at least one member with severe disability through the provision of regular cash transfer.

Constance Regua, an officer in the County Social Development says that the project targets extremely poor and vulnerable households who have a member with severe and permanent disability.

She added: “A beneficiary can only be removed if they move out of the program location, if they do not collect their cash for three consecutive months or if they have given false information and if they willingly withdraw from the program,” Regua added.

The beneficiaries receive a bi-monthly payment of Sh4,000 which are being disbursed to the beneficiary through the postal corporation of Kenya.
