Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWD) in Nakuru County have decried the high cost of doing business accusing the Nakuru County administration of failing to waive the business permit fees.
According to the association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya (PDK) national vice chairman Fredrick Owako, county governments across the country have failed to honour the Disability Act. The Act exempts people living with disabilities from paying for business permits.
“This Act has to be implemented to avoid disabled people from being in the streets as beggars. If implemented, it will allow them live and earn decent living. It is also unjustifiable to demand audit reports from their small scale businesses,” said Owako.
He called upon the Nakuru County assembly to formulate a committee to oversee the expenditure of Sh55 million set aside for persons living with disabilities and HIV/Aids in the county.
