Nairobi gubernatorial hopeful Peter Kenneth's bid has been dealt a huge blow, after a youth wing allied to the candidate reportedly resolved to back Senator Mike Sonko who is also eyeing the city's top seat.

In a letter addressed to Kenneth by the caucus' co-coordinator Jackson Aluda, the group announced their official withdrawal from Kenneth's camp.

"I hereby wish to tender my resignation as the Youth and Operations co-coordinator at Peter Kenneth Secretariat," the letter said in part.

"My decision results from the fact that a few weeks to Jubilee party primaries all contenders for the race to oust the incumbent had a gentleman’s agreement to support whoever wins the ticket. This was for the sake of party unity," the letter continued.

Sonko is the Jubilee gubernatorial candidate for Nairobi.

He is seeking to unseat the incumbent governor Evans Kidero of ODM.
