2013 Presidential candidate Peter Kenneth is set to dissolve his Kenya National Congress (KNC) party and formally join Uhuru Kenyatta-led Jubilee Party.
In an interview with Kameme FM, Embakasi North Member of Parliament James Gakuya, said that the former Gatanga MP will make an official announcement on his latest move this weekend.
Gakuya, Kenneth's close confidant, also revealed that Kenneth will battle it out with other aspirants in Jubilee Party seeking to vie for Nairobi gubernatorial seat on the party's ticket.
He said Kenneth's supporters have been urging him to vie either for the Murang'a or Nairobi gubernatorial seat, but the former assistant minister has opted for the latter.
"He has been weighing his options as some of his supporters have been urging him to vie in Murang'a and others in Nairobi, but he has opted to run in the city. He has also been told to try a second shot at the Presidency, an option he has ruled out," said Gakuya.
Kenneth joins an already crowded race that includes Nairobi senator Mike Sonko, Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru, nominated MP Johnson Sakaja, former Starehe MP Bishop Margaret Wanjiru and Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa.
Others who are preparing to face off with Dr Evans Kidero include Miguna Miguna, former National Assembly Speaker Kenneth Marende, former Kilome MP Harun Mwau and city businesswoman Esther Passaris.
The former Gatanga legislator gained popularity during the last elections impressing many with his ideology and development-based brand of politics but eventually emerged fifth behind Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi and Abduba Dida respectively.
