Former 2013 election presidential candidate Peter Kenneth officially declared interest in vying for the Nairobi gubernatorial post.
Kenneth who also served as Gatanga MP, declared he would be vying on a Jubilee party ticket and expressed optimism that he would beat incumbent, ODM's Dr Evans Kidero, in the August 8, polls.
"I'm now making it clear that I am in the race for the Nairobi gubernatorial position. We have all seen how this city has been doing so badly under current leadership. We need someone who will assure Nairobi residents of better lives and development. That person is me, and I will be vying through Jubilee,'' Kenneth said, Sunday after a Church service, along Thika Road.
He announced to work with Jubilee and support President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election bid, before resigning as the Kenya National Congress (KNC) party leader in November 2016.
However, critics sees Kenneth's entry into Jubilee as a plan to succeed President Kenyatta as a politician from the Agikuyu community, when his term ends.
This, critics say complicates Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential ambitions, under Jubilee.
