A section of former councillors from Nairobi County have endorsed Peter Kenneth’s bid to be the next city governor in 2017 general election.
Led by former Starehe Ward councillor Stephen Gitau, the councillors said Kenneth had a good development record as Gatanga Member of Parliament that would steer Nairobi to development.
"Kenneth was born and raised in Eastlands and knows the city challenges far too well," said Gitau.
Former Kahawa West Ward councillor Vincent Kamau Gichomo said that none of the aspirants seeking to challenge the incumbent Governor Evans Kidero measures up to Kenneth's leadership qualities.
"City residents have not benefited from devolved system of government and the current leadership at the county has nothing to show and it must be replaced with a performer in public service like Peter Kenneth,” Gichomo told the Star at the weekend.
Gichomo identified poor waste management; deteriorating infrastructure; poor traffic management; lack of clean and sufficient water; and insecurity as the topmost issues needing solutions.
"Given the rate at which the population in Nairobi is growing, it would require a manager with clear foresight," Gichomo noted.
The councillors also want Kenneth to join President Uhuru Kenyatta-led Jubilee Party and run under the party's ticket.
