Nairobi gubernatorial contestant Peter Kenneth has said he won’t suspend his bid for the city’s top seat in support for Senator Mike Sonko.
There have been calls for the former Gatanga MP to withdraw his gubernatorial bid and support Sonko.Kenneth who spoke during an interview at a local television station on Thursday said his name would be on the ballot paper on August 8.“Sonko failed in his oversight role as senator,” he said.“If it’s true he is a leader, we wouldn’t be having all the problems we are facing in Nairobi.”On July 21, President Uhuru Kenyatta while on a campaign trail in Nairobi’s East Lands area told Kenneth to step down for Sonko “who is part of the winning team.”“The time to restore the glory of Nairobi is now and you hold the key to that change,” Uhuru said in Sonko’s company.Kenneth faced off with Sonko during Jubilee Party’s party primary elections in April. The soft spoken politician, however, lost to Sonko. He claimed the party primaries were rigged in favour of Sonko and chose to vie for the post of governor as an independent candidate. He says he is better placed to transform Nairobi.
