Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Peter Kenneth has been permitted to establish a new bank in Kenya.Kenneth is among the 25 shareholders of Mayfair Bank that was recently approved by the Central Bank of Kenya.
Ambrose Rachier, who is also the chairman of Gor Mahia FC, is among the 25 listed shareholders that form the lender which was given the greenlight by the CBK on Monday.
"CBK announces its intention to finalise the processing of license applications for two institutions that had already been granted an "approval in principle", as a first step to lifting the moratorium on licensing of new commercial banks," the banking regulator said in a statement on Monday.
This approval now means DIB Bank Kenya Limited and Mayfair Bank Limited will both in formation complete the remaining steps to finalise their application for licenses.
