Former Meru Governor Peter Munya during campaigns. facebook.com/Peter MunyaImmediate former Meru Governor Peter Munya is gearing up for a legal battle with his successor Kiraitu Murung’i.
Munya on Monday announced he will be going to court to challenge the election of Kiraitu who he says was fraudulently elected during the August 8 general election.
“The journey to realise the Meru and the Kenyan dream continues in earnest. This is the dream they tried to kill by stealing our election victory. We now have all the necessary evidence to prove it,” he said after meeting NASA principals Raila Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula at Raila’s Capitol Hill office in Nairobi.
“I will be going to court in the next few days seeking to overturn the fraudulent gubernatorial and senatorial elections in Meru.”
The Party of National Unity leader who has since joined NASA said he is confident he will triumph in court because he has the necessary evidence to quash Kiraitu’s victory.
Kiraitu, a former Energy minister won the gubernatorial election by 276,053 (52.15 percent) votes against Munya’s 226,561 (42.80 percent).
“I want to be in the right side of history, to fight electoral malpractice in Kenya,” Munya said.
“I have joined NASA as the sixth principal and I will be working with them moving forward, to ensure that the will of the people is respected and that Kenyans get the leadership that they choose.”
