Hearing for an election petition against Nandi Hills Member of Parliament Alfred Keter has been scheduled to begin on January 16, 2018.

Eldoret High Court Judge George Kimondo ordered that the case will be heard for three consecutive days to January 19, 2018.

Hearing dates for the case were set on Tuesday after Justice Kimondo dismissed two applications that sought to terminate the petition.

Keter who is named as a respondent in the case filed by Bernard Kibor who finished second had filed an application seeking the petition to be thrown out on grounds that there was no sufficient evidence to sustain it.

IEBC had also filed a similar application but on grounds that the petition was defective.

"People of Nandi Hills have a right to know whether the parliamentary election was free and fair. Terminating the petition at this stage will be doing an injustice to them," said Justice Kimondo in a ruling delivered on Tuesday.

He further dismissed an application to allow the petitioner to add more witnesses and struck out the petitioner's affidavits that were filed outside the set timelines but allowed him to file a new affidavit within three days.

With the two applications thrown out, the case will now proceed to full hearing.Keter was declared the winner by IEBC with 28,923 votes against 13,872 garnered by independent candidate Benard Kibor Kitur who came second.
