Mr Kenyatta has asked the Nyeri Town MP to withdraw his petition against CJ Maraga.

The MP had on Thursday questioned Maraga's suitability as the president of the Supreme Court through a petition before the Judicial Service Commission.

But President Kenyatta on Friday requested Mr Ngunjiri to drop the petition and instead focus on the October 17 election.

“I understand your pain and action but we have an election to win. That has to be our focus. Leave the courts alone," Mr Kenyatta said.

The head of state, who has incessantly attacked the Supreme Court judges after his August win was overturned told a Sagana Lodge meeting of Jubilee leaders that all they needed was peace as they seek to marshal support ahead of the repeat presidential poll.

He said; "All what we want is for the will of the people to prevail."

Jubilee secretary general Raphael Tuju had on Thursday said the petition was not the voice of the ruling party but instead an individual initiative that had nothing to do with the Jubilee Party’s leadership.

Other leaders who asked Mr Wambugu to drop the petition include majority leaders Aden Duale (national Assembly) and Kipchumba Murkomen (Senate) and vocal Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria.

The opposition coalition NASA had argued that the petition by the Jubilee MP was a sign of background initiatives by the Jubilee administration against the Judiciary.
