Residents of Kiambu County have been urged to ensure that they avoid using herbal medicine obtained from unqualified personnel.
Brenda Onyancha, a pharmacist at the Kiambu District Hospital on Sunday, cautioned residents against the use of herbal medicine as most of them are poisonous. "It is true that some of the herbal medicines cure different types of diseases but we are urging the people of kiambu to be very careful when using them as most of the people distributing them are unqualified,” Onyancha said.
"It is not always advisable to use them and you should first seek advice from a doctor before going ahead and using them. Some of the herbs have very severe side effects which may lead even to death,” Onyancha added.
She urged the county government to regulate the number of clinics and also the so called herb doctors. "There are those who have not registered their clinics and yet they are still operating. I urge the county government to ensure that they regulate them and those who will be caught doing their business without proper documentation should be arrested", Onyancha said.
