Kiambu governor's wife Philomena Kabogo has called for equal empowerment of the both the boy and the girl child.

Kabogo said on Monday that equal empowerment of boy and girl child will promote development.

She observed that much focus and emphasis had been put on the girl child and ignored the boy child.

“The society should now equally empower he boy and the girl child so that we can have equal and progressive development,” she said.

The Kiambu First lady said that the boy child has been left on its own adding that it is the reason to why most of them are engaging in crime.

She urged the government to put in place more programs that will address the plight of both the boy and the girl child.

Kabogo urged stakeholders and well-wishers to help girl’s access sanitary pads.

The Kiambu First lady observed that a large percentage of teenage girls in the county have not access to sanitary pads.

“We must work together and help these girls get access to sanitary pads and other basic needs,” she said.

The Kiambu First lady said that empowering young boys and girls will prevent them from engaging in social evils like drug abuse and prostitution.

Kiambu county First Lady Philomena Kabogo has challenged women to apply for government funds and start business ventures that will earn them livelihoods and promote their socio-economic lives.

Ms Kabogo while addressing women at Kanyiha primary school in Nachu Ward, Kikuyu sub county on Monday said that women have a chance to better their socio-economic lives if the grab the government funds.

The Kiambu first lady said that the national and county government is giving out development funds to women, youths and disabled persons.

“I want to challenge Kiambu women to grab the development money being given under the Uwezo and Biashara fund and start meaningful ventures,” she said.

She also asked women not to shy away from the 30 per cent government tenders reserved for the marginalised groups and encouraged women to form groups and access the government tenders.
