The Judicial Service Commission on Monday, October 10 nominated lady Justice Philomena Mbete Mwilu for the Deputy Chief Justice post.
Philomena, if successful, will be the second Deputy Chief Justice under the new constitution after Nancy Baraza, with Kalpana Rawal having come in between as an interim after Baraza's resignation.
The names of Maraga and Philomena will now await parliament for approval before they're confirmed as Chief Justice and Deputy respectively.
Philomena Mwilu graduated from the University of Nairobi then was admitted to the High Court in 1984 as an advocate.
She has served in the murder section of the Criminal Division, Environmental and land Division of the High court and Commercial Division in Nairobi.
