Deputy Chief Justice, Lady Justice Philomena Mwilu has urged members of the National Assembly to strive to understand the concept of judicial review.
She said this would minimize conflicts between the two arms of government - Parliament and Judiciary, adding that no arm of government holds a position superior to the terms of the law.
Justice Mwilu who represented the Chief Justice David Maraga at the Post-Election Seminar for members of the National Assembly, said Institutional independence means more than just mere immunity from interference.
Mwilu addressed MPs and other stakeholders on Institutional Relationships between the Arms of Government, during the seminar which officially kicked off at the Pride Inn Paradise Hotel in Mombasa on Monday.
She further acknowledged that the forum was a necessary mutually constructive relationship between the two arms of government for the benefit of all Kenyans.
Other leaders present were the former chairperson of the Committee of Experts on Constitutional Review Nzamba Kitonga, Alexandra Mendes - Member of Parliament in the Canadian House of Commons, and CPA Vice Chairperson - Jerry Hartz.
Others include the Director of Government Relations and Communications, National Democratic Institute, USA - Senator Lucy Gichohi, from the Senate of Australia, and Tom Duncun - the Clerk of the Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly.
The three day seminar runs from Monday through Thursday.
It is instrumental in developing a platform for shared experiences and knowledge transfer between the Members of the 12th Parliament and those from other jurisdictions within the commonwealth spectrum.
It is envisaged that such capacity will be as necessary to transcend their lives as Members of Parliament and prepare them for life after Parliament in the event that they are not reelected or they retire from politics.
