It was a sigh of relief for former President Moi's grandson after a trial court in Nakuru dropped charges against him over counts that he allegedly stole two mobile phones.
Collins Toroitich told the court through his lawyer Ochang Ajigo that they had discussed the matter with his family and opted for an out of court settlement.
Ajigo averred that his client (Toroitich) took the phones from the two girls in order to get them to concentrate on crucial discussions and advise he was giving them before they parted ways then.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate David Kemei on Monday, Toroitich was later acquitted of the charges to allow an out-of-court settlement deal by both parties.
"With no objection from any party, the accused is hereby discharged of the offense to allow an out of court settlement," the Magistrate ruled.
On July 28 this year, Collins Toroitich Moi was indicted over theft of two mobile phones approximated to be worth Sh200 000 while they were having dinner around Showground area within Nakuru County. He denied the charges.
He had termed the whole incident as a misunderstanding and plot by his ex-girlfriend to taint the former President's family name adding that he could not steal something he can afford.
