With less than two weeks to the August 8, polls, the government through the office of acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i is working around the clock to ensure Kenyans will enjoy adequate security during the polls.

On Tuesday, Matiang'i launched MI-17 helicopters that will be used by the police during the election period.
According to the CS, the choppers will help secure 2017 polls.

"We are ready to support IEBC in maintaining peace. Our country is secure," said Matiang'i.
"We (gov't) will continue to support the police force to ensure there’s peace in the country. Since 1963, this is the most peaceful pre - election period we have had," he added.The launch of the choppers comes in days after opposition coalition NASA claimed that Matiang'i is using his office to manipulate the elections in a bid to rig in favor of Jubilee party.

"The MI- 17 helicopter is the third we have refurbished and we have three more in order," added Inspector General of police Joseph Boinnet.However, Matiang'i and President Uhuru Kenyatta have dismissed the opposition claims saying the CS is just playing his role to ensure Kenyans enjoy reliable security during the election period.
