Operations at the Mtongwe Ferry channel in Mombasa, have resumed. This is after the Kenya Ferry Services (KFS) completed repair works on the island landing site, after a section of the crossing collapsed a month after its official relaunching by President Uhuru Kenyatta, in March this year.The Kenya Ferry Services said operations resumed this morning from Mtongwe Island to the mainland, easing transport services to Mtongwe residents, who were now going all the way to the Likoni Channel. The collapsed pontoon that was washed away by Indian Ocean waters for Sh13 million, (a figure reported by the Star)."Ferry services resumed today morning from Mtongwe mainland to Mtongwe Island after repair works on island landing site have been completed," KFS tweeted, Monday.President Kenyatta commissioned the resumption of Mtongwe Ferry services, after its closure in 2012, and assured Jubilee administration has set aside a tune of Sh2.2 billion to buy two new ferries to boost services.The new ferries will arrive in the country from Turkey between June and July this year.
