On 22 August, 1978 Kenya lost her founding father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, marking an end to his more than 10 years at the helm of the nation leadership.

On Tuesady, President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta together with First Lady Margaret Kenyatta led nation in laying a wreath at the late Head of State memorial grave yard next to the parliament building.

Uhuru spared some kind words for his fathers 17-year legacy at the helm of power.
"Mzee believed in us speaking in one voice, working together as a Kenyan people. We are celebrating the life of a man who dedicated his life towards attainment of independence," he said.
