People living with disabilities and are not employed in Kisumu have been urged to register with the county disability department. 

The director of people living with disability department in Kisumu, Geoffrey Odhiambo said that registration is the start of the long journey towards meeting needs of the disabled.

“We have a plan to give out money to unemployed people living with disabilities so that they can start businesses to improve their livelihoods,” Odhiambo said in Kisumu on Monday.

Odhiambo who is blind said that physically challenged people are human beings and as such should be granted respect.

He further noted that all employed people living with disabilities should be provided with conducive working environment that include; being assigned an assistant and having a spacious office. 

 Odhiambo urged the physically challenged to pay taxes like all law abiding citizens.

“Disable people are expected to be responsible and paying tax is part of that responsibility,” he said.
