A section of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) supporters in Kibera want party leader Raila Odinga to pick Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho as his running mate if he is endorsed by Cord as 2017 flag bearer.
The supporters said that Raila will win automatically if he picks Joho because the governor has 'brought light to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)'.
“Raila should consider picking Hassan Joho as his running mate if endorsed as 2017 flag bearer,” said Geoffrey Bwire, a resident at Laini Saba in Kibera.
Mr Bwire said that ODM is still popular on the ground, adding that the emergence of Joho has made the party more vibrant.
The supporters also want other Cord co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula to allow Raila bid for the seat in the coming polls.
“Kalonzo and Wetangula should support Raila’s bid,” said Jeff Obure, a local transport operator at Laini Saba.
Mr Obure said that Kalonzo and Wetangula still have time and can bid for the presidential seat later on.
The supporters said that Raila still has a huge chance to win against President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017.
There are speculations that Joho could deputise Raila if ODM decides to go it alone in the coming polls.
Joho who is leading ODM rallies across the country has vowed to work hard and ensure Raila becomes President in 2017.
During a rally in Kisumu, the Mombasa governor said that he is ready to die but see Raila at State House in 2017.
Joho’s political rise is however creating tension in Cord with analysts saying that the governor has overshadowed Kalonzo and Wetangula in the coalition.
Joho who is seeking re-election as Mombasa governor has also declared interest to vie for the presidency in 2022 general elections.
