Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company has launched a project to phase out pit latrines from slums.
“The project began in February, Most slum dwellers use unhygienic communal pit latrines, our aim is to give the slum dwellers quality sanitation facilities” said NCWSC chairperson Raphael Nzomo
It will convert the pit latrines and its septic tanks to hygienic pour-flash toilets.
“17,226 households in Nairobi will be connected to the sewer network and 6,438 new warer connections will develop,” said Nzomo
The project will benefit informal areas in Nairobi which includes Kayole, Soweto, Riverbank, Matopeni, Mukuru/Makongeni, Kibera and Mathare among other informal settlements.
