[Photo/the-star.co.ke]Women and children from Garissa County are set to benefit from a health care campaign launched by the Garissa government on Tuesday.Health executive Ahmednadhri Omar said the Malezi Bora month will seek to improve the health of mothers and children in the county, especially in remote areas.Mr. Omar said the programme will ensure immunization and deworming of children and vitamin A supplementation.Nutritional and health education, screening, treatment and referral on malnourished children, pregnant and lactating mothers will also be offered during the campaign, he said.“This we know will improve child survival and development, as well as contribute to the county’s prosperity.”“Good health is a prerequisite for rapid socio-economic development. To this end, we will continue to invest in infrastructure and personnel, both in numbers and technical capacity,” Mr. Omar.Speaking in Garissa town, Mr. Omar further said family planning services, antenatal care services and hospital deliveries for pregnant women will also be offered adding that they seek to increase safe deliveries for women.The executive urged women to give birth in hospitals saying it will not only reduce the risk of birth complications but also give women appropriate breastfeeding counsel and nutrition education.He also urged civil society groups, UN agencies, and other partners to support an education campaign meant to support pregnant women to visit hospitals to get professional antenatal care and skilled birth delivery.
