NASA principal Musalia Mudavadi on Friday embarked on a one-week tour of Western region to drum up support for the opposition alliance 's flag bearer Raila Odinga and his Amani National Congress (ANC) party's candidates.

Addressing a series of rallies in Busia County, Mudavadi urged the Luhya community to come out in large numbers in the August 8 polls to defeat the notion that they are less interested in taking part in elections.

"Only 60 per cent of Western community members vote during every general election, compared to other areas where the vote is overwhelming. Let us this time round vote to the last man," Mudavadi said, as quoted by the Star.

Noting that majority of the one million undecided voters are from Western, the former Deputy Prime Minister called on local leaders to embark on door-to-door campaigns to popularise and rally support for NASA.

"To ensure the 45 per cent of the revenue collected by the national government goes to the grassroots, we shall have to embrace NASA's six-piece voting pattern to avert coming out with a hung parliament," the ANC leader said.

He further cautioned NASA's supporters against fleeing regions where they have registered as voters for fear of violence.

Mudavadi asked the security officers to ensure Kenyans peacefully participate in the election by putting in place measures to prevent chaos.

Mudavadi was accompanied by area leaders Sospeter Ojaamong (Governor), Amos Wako (Senator), Senator candidate Okiya Omtatah and Women Representative candidate Susan Mang'eni.
