The Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet. [industrilization.go.ke]The Kenya police force through their boss Inspector General Joseph Boinnet has stated that they are well equipped to face anybody who plans to perpetrate violence in the August 8, General Elections.
While speaking in a Nairobi hotel on Monday, Boinnet said the police force may be obliged to use slightly more force on perpetrators of violence as the nation speaks through the ballot.
“If violence occurs, then we have to stop it and it means we will use slightly more force than that used by those causing violence," he said.
However, Boinnet was quick to dismissed claims that his blue boys are equipping themselves to occasion cases of police brutality and extrajudicial killings.
"We are not buying items for a riot but also have to prepare for the worst. We don't want a similar situation like 2007 where we were accused of lacking the capacity," he said.
"Our focus is to deliver a safe and secure environment for Kenyans to exercise their democratic right,” he added.
