Kenyans have been advised to plan for the future by embracing the saving culture.
The Retirement Benefits Authority and the National Social Security Fund are spearheading campaigns to educate the public on the need to save for their future.
The elderly are not being left out of this campaign.
Speaking Wednesday during the International Day of Older Persons at DC grounds in Kibera, some of the old people said they save a little cash from the help they get from the government’s cash transfer programme.
Neron Ahamed from Kibera said she uses her money to buy food but keeps some for future use.
The 80-year-old revealed that she intends to open a shop so as to boost her income.
Hussein Mbaruk, 84, said he uses his money to pay his house rent and wants to save some to start a school, perhaps a day care, because she loves children.
Maua Nachesa said she is thankful to the government for the programme, and wants to use her savings to build a big house in her rural home in Vihiga.
She, however, thinks the money being given is not enough and would like the government to increase the allowances.
