(Photo/Nation.)Kenya National Highways Authority has signed a contract worth Sh62 billion with South Africa based company Five Group Construction Limited for the construction of the Lamu - Garissa - Isiolo road.Transport CS James Macharia said the 530 km road will help develop 10 towns in the regions and ease transport of goods from Lamu port."The process of construction will start and this is no longer a pipe dream. This now means the growth of this country will be massively enhanced," he said. He noted that once the project is complete, transport between Uganda, Kenya, South Sudan and Ethiopia will be improved. The construction project is expected to start in June 2018 and will be opened for use after four years.The road will start in the port city of Lamu and proceed through Bura, Tana River county and continue to Garissa town from where the road will go through Modo Gashe and goes via Garba Tula, to end Isiolo.At Isiolo, the road will link with the Isiolo - Lokichar road which is also in the plan.The project is being funded by the Development Bank of South Africa.
