Speaking to the press during a breakfast meeting in Kisumu Tuesday morning, Kisumu County governor Jack Ranguma said that he is still in talks with an investor, whom he did not disclose, to inject Sh16 billion into housing investment.

Ranguma explained that the project encompass construction of a mall and a five star hotel with a capacity of housing 500 people.

“The investment once put in place will be a massive employer to the local residents,” he said.

The governor at the same time said that he is working closely with the management of Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) in order to pre plan for a bigger conference facility in the town.

“Tom Mboya Labour College, which housed the second devolution conference last week, did not have capacity cater for all delegates and we had to hire tents from Nairobi,” he said.

Governor Ranguma pointed out that the organizers of the conference had earlier targeted Naivasha, which has conference facilities, adding that it was an uphill task to convince them otherwise.

He thanked the local residents for their warm reception and support during the conference, as well as the media for their objective reporting.

“It is not the little money that people keep in their pockets that will change this County, but investors and their programmes,” he said.

Last week, the County hosted the second national devolution conference that was attended by over 5,000 delegates from Council of Governors.
