Residents from Kisii County have been challenged to plant fruit trees as a way of conserving the environment.

Speaking on Sunday at Riangabi DEB primary school in Nyaribari Chache constituency during the launch in readiness to mark world environment day on June 5th.

The General manager at Lake Basin Development Authority Mr Evans Atera advised residents to plant fruit trees as one way of conserving the environment.

Atera said that planting trees like avocado, Mangos will help the community to have both trees and fruits.

“We are urging residents to plant fruit trees since it serves like trees and at the same time as fruits," said Atera.

"It will help us to conserve the environment both economically and have plenty of fruits,In addition” sIn addition,

He said that as the ministry is encouraging all communities to make sure that they plant more trees since trees are important on a daily basis.

“We are encouraging all communities in the region to make use of their land by planting more trees so that we can conserve the environment,” added Atera.

Mr Evans was representing the PS  Environment and Natural resources  Charles Sunkuli.
