Teenage environmentalist Lily Tanui Moimet has come up with a formula she says if followed will increase the country's forest cover.
Lily, 18, has proposed that every Kenyan should plant trees during their birthdays and according to the years they are turning."This will help to increase the forest cover from the current 7 percent to at least 30 percent. Can you imagine how many trees will be planted if we strictly follow this formula," said the young environmentalist in Eldoret town after planting a tree, Sunday."It's discouraging that over a quarter of Kenya's forest has been destroyed. I urge Kenyans from all divide to at least plant one tree during this rainy season and not to forget that if you cut one tree plant two. Kenyans should stop talking about conserving the environment but instead plant trees," she added. The young environmentalist who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) last year says her target is to follow in the footsteps of the late Prof. Wangari Maathai and ensure that the forest cover increases to 50 percent in the country. She has already planted over 2,000 trees and has 3,000 seedlings.
