The fire razed a semi permanent wooden house in the 11pm incident.

Speaking to this writer on the phone, Subukia ward MCA Peter Njoroge popularly known as Mwanjo who was among the first to arrive at the scene, said; “the fire started after a tin lamp ignited fire on a mattress”.

"Some safari ants invaded their house, when the mother decided to pour some paraffin on the floor to keep them away, but unknowingly, her children took a lantern with them to the house,” he said.

“Nothing was salvaged during the inferno,” Mwanjo said.

One person who was among residents trying to put off the fire, suffered a deep hand cut from an iron sheet, as he rescued a child who was inside the house.

He was treated at Subukia Sub-County Hospital.

“In the future, we (Nakuru County) must ensure that each sub-county is equipped with a fire engine in order to help respond to such cases,” Mwanjo insisted.

He also called on the Governor Kinuthia Mbugua, who is expected to visit Subukia Wednesday to visit the family and offer them some help.
