Speaking at Maguguni shopping centre on Saturday, the MCA said that most of the roads connecting the area to Thika town are in poor condition and have hampered business.

Ngige said that the situation has been worsened by the heavy rains being experienced in the area. He noted that some of the roads were repaired five months ago and are no longer passable.

“Business activities and transport have been hampered by poor road networks. The county government should intervene and have the roads repaired,” said the MCA.

He blamed poor roads to substandard renovations that were done earlier, saying that the contractors did shoddy works.

Ngige asked the government to only give contracts to road contractors who can do a good job. He said that tax payer’s money is being misused through shoddy and dubious contracts.

Meanwhile, residents of Matathia in Ngoliba want the government to repair the Matathia Bridge that was swept away by floods on Thursday last week.

The bridge that connects the ward to Thika was swept by surface runoff paralysing services. The residents claim that students who use the bridge to go to school have not attended school for two days.
